Day 80

Drywall complete in stairwell. Temporary stairs come out and permanent ones go in after the drywall is complete.

I got clean up duty.

Kitchen

More clean up. Story of my life - cleaning up after messy men.

DA-DAH! Clean and ready for the dry wall people to mess it up again.

Living room.

Looking into dining area from living room.

Cindy's cubby.

And as the sun sets on this industrious Sunday, we both feel good about the work we did today.

Day 79

I met the drywall hangers on my way down the mountain this morning at 7 am.  That's a good sign because the speed with which these guys work is amazing. I suspect that when I get home tonight, I will find most if not all the dry wall up and maybe even some plastering going on.  I would love to be able to begin painting on Sunday. I'll post some pictures tonight. We're in a countdown to Super Bowl Sunday, not because we're that committed to the game but because we set that as a goal for being in the Carriage House. It will be very close.
Looking into kitchen.

View from the front window. It will be good to get the staging down.

Front wall of great room.

Wall between great room and bedroom.

Great Room.

Bathroom -purple just means moisture resistant.

Days 76,77, and 78

No pictures that show a lot of progress but a ton of stuff has been accomplished. Most importantly, the boiler is now operational. Ben fired it this morning. The garage floor is slowly coming up to temperature. It will be good to not have to drain the water tank every night now. Tomorrow the dry wall guy returns to finish hanging the dry wall. Unfortunately, the he has had bronchitis but hopefully he is well now and will get the job done soon.

This is why we are ready to move into the Carriage House

Temperature this morning at 5:30 AM AFTER standing two hour watches to keep the wood fire going. The thermometer is on an outside wall so in all fairness, we probably should add 10 degrees to it. But still... 37 degrees???? We must be crazy.

Day 75 - SHEETROCK!!!!!!!!

Once the sheet rock is up, we can boogie and get this place done! I can't wait to paint.

Day 74

No pics to report but there is still progress. Thompson's Heating came Friday to put in the propane tanks, the gas line for the kitchen range, and to hook up the boiler. So, once Ben has the boiler ready to go on line, the fuel is there. Jon and I worked Friday to put up some of the vapor barrier; he finished it today. The drywall person could not come Saturday as planned; he had been sick. However, he is coming Monday afternoon to begin the drywall work. Ben, the plumber, is coming Monday to work on the boiler. I would love to see some exponential progress this week. It is bitterly cold tonight in Liberty. Last night we set the alarm for every two hours to feed the wood stove so it would not be terribly cold in the AM. Tonight is supposed to be the coldest night with temps into the -20 degree range. It is hard to keep the camp much above 50 degrees in weather like this. Thank goodness for the quilts and blankets on our bed! Tonight will be another challenging one but hopefully the weather will take a turn for the better and we will be in the Carriage House soon.

Day 73

A little silly I suppose, but DirectTV hooked up service today. We just wanted the wires in before drywall went in.

Adding a moisture barrier to the sheetrock.

This heating system is getting more complicated by the day. Very glad we have an expert plumber handling it.

Exhaust vents completed.

Manifold for the radiant heat in the garage floor.
With temperature forecast to be sub-zero by Monday, if this heating system is operational, we may end up "camping out" in the Carriage House. Thompson's is coming tomorrow to set the propane tanks and hook up gas to the heating unit. We're not sure if the whole thing will be ready to go or not. We'll just have to wait and see.

A no work day.

Snow last night and this morning halted work. Jon plowed and moved snow to make room for Viking to deliver sheet rock and went to Rockland to pick up mail and go to the dump. Tomorrow should be a productive day: DirectTV is scheduled to hook up service; Ben will be back to continue work on the heating system; and perhaps Thompson's will show up to set the propane tanks for the boiler. I'll find out when I get home tonight. On another note, last night was parent-teacher conferences at school. Horrible night for it - slippery, icy roads. I had zero parents how up and a slick ride home at 7:30. More snow is forecast for Friday. Kids are already predicting a snow day. I wouldn't mind it myself!

Day 72

Ben Larner from Ridgeview Plumbing and heating - Nice work!

We should be warm and have plenty of hot water!

Monday, January 17, 2011

Day 71

Heard from Ben, the plumber; "So what do you think? Think you'll be moving in say about March or April?" My reply: "How about in two weeks?" He just doesn't understand that we don't really care if all the trim work is finished. As long as we have constant heat, hot water, plumbing, and electricity (four things we presently do not have) we are moving in! The next five pictures are the upstairs as it is now. When I take pictures of it again, it will be covered with beautiful dry wall, which Jon ordered today! The credit we received for the overestimation of insulation ( we sent it back) equals almost exactly what the drywall costs. Yeah for not having to write another big fat check! So what do you think? A nice cottage yellow for the walls?

Bedroom

Our cutting edge, highly efficient, super-duper, propane fired, boiler for radiant heat. With the high R value insulation, radiant floor heating, and this boiler, Jon figures he can heat the place with the equivalent of a candle's BTUs.

Day 70

Finishing up the strapping.

Building a wall beside the shower.

Building a manifold for the water supply. Blue=cold; red=hot.

Fancy mixing valve for the boiler.

Day 68

Our Pink Panther house, at least until spring when we can get the siding on.

Empty floor space where extra insulation once took up space (about $900.00 worth). Now returned to Viking for credit.

Not only do we have electricity, we have phone and DSL.

Mr. Jon on the ladder once again.

A close up of Jon putting up some trim to keep out the snow in anticipation of a storm tomorrow.

Day 67

Ben the plumber at work.

Hot and cold water lines. No more leaky copper pipes. All plastic these days.

Sink connection in the kitchen.
