Fall is coming - Leaves are beginning to change.

Day six

Today, the construction began. Jon and Ken started at 6:30 and by 4:30, the sills were down and part of the walls were up.

While we're working on the Carriage House, Hope takes it easy.

The minute we leave her alone, she squeezes herself into this little wicker chair.

Day five

Almost looks like a skating rink.

Lemons and lemonade

The saying goes, "When life gives your lemons, make lemonade." Today the sale of our Rankin Street house fell through. The bank decided to pull the buyer's loan at the last minute. He is pursuing other options and hopefully by Monday we will know if we have to start from zero again or if he will be able to buy the house. However, in the meantime, the foundation for our Carriage House is finished. We are very happy with it and will go ahead with beginning construction on Monday. We remember when we were buying the Liberty property that we went through a lot of ups and downs but ultimately we prevailed and were able to close on the property. We hope the same thing happens with our Rankin Street house. Our buyer wants it as badly as we wanted the Liberty property. So we will wait and see.

The last day of foundation contruction

Bright and early this morning (6:20) two concrete trucks rolled down Lampson Road to pour the foundation floor. When I left for work, half the floor was down. I am amazed at how fast this foundation was finished and how well-coordinated the work was. If anyone needs a foundation person, Joe Thornley is your man. His work is exception, and he kept within his estimate. I'll have more pictures to post tonight.

Old blog link

Sweet Land of Liberty IWeb blog

I don't use this blog anymore because it was so cumbersome to post to.  However, the Imovie I made about Liberty is posted there.

Day three

The foundation has been back filled; the blue board and mesh is down. Tomorrow the tubes for the radiant heat go in. As long as the rain holds off, the floor will be poured on Wednesday. By Friday... Jon and Ken will begin building the walls. There are more photos in my Picasa albums. Just click on the icon to the right. And seriously, I am going to teach Jon how to post to the blog too, as soon as he figures out how to use his new Android phone :>)

Reflection

The closing on the Rankin Street house will be on Wednesday. I mowed that lawn for the last time today. I will miss the house. It is the place where we raised our children. I have so many memories that were born in that place. However, I am also excited to move into a new part of our lives: retirement for Jon, living the dream he has always had of being a farmer, and for me fulfilling the bargain we made 16 years ago. I have four degrees largely because of my extremely supportive husband. Now it is time for me to support him, and I gladly do it. So a new chapter begins in the lives of Jon and Cindy.
